Valley of the Temples
CasaRealia is located on the south west coast of Sicily, an area full of history and culture. We are only ten minutes away from the Valley of the Temples, one of the most visited touristic attraction of the region. The Valley has been part of the UNESCO heritage since 1997 and with its 1300 hectares is the biggest of its kind. It comprises eight ancient Greek Doric temples built between 510 BC and 430 BC and the newly discovered Greek theatre.
In the Valley, you can also find the Kolymbetra gardens, which in ancient times was the ending section of the massive irrigation system of Akgragas (the ancient Greek Agrigento). This garden is now a delightful place full of indigenous vegetation, where, especially during the summer, one can enjoy music shows, plays or other artistic endeavours in a fantastic environment.
The Lucchesiana library, the Filippini museum, St. Mary of Greeks, St. Spirito nunnery are only few of the many interesting sites Agrigento offers to tourists.
In the vicinity you can reach the Farm cultural park in Favara, only 15 minutes away. Here, you can admire many modern art installations in a very interesting and unique environment.
If you want to head out of Agrigento many are the destination to visit: the Roman mosaics at Piazza Armerina’s Villa del Casale (1h 50min), the archaeological sites of Selinunte (1h 45min), and Caltagirone (1h 50 min) famous for its colourful ceramics. And of course there are the more infamous attractions of towns such as Corleone (1h 30 mins) and the beautiful town of Port Empedocle where Montalbano was conceived.
CasaRealia is only 15 minutes away from the renowned Turkish Steps and less than five from the numerous beaches of San Leone. All along the coast it is possible to stop at one of the beach bars to get something for lunch or wait for the sunset, while you sip your favourite drink.
